NYS Fair pays $40,000 to keep iconic $1 potato booth alive with new vendor

Geddes, N.Y. — Every summer, tens of thousands of New York State Fair visitors willingly stand in one of the fairgrounds’ longest lines for something they could make at home: a $1 baked potato.

This year, they’ll be getting it from someone new.

Tully’s Good Times has been selected to take over the iconic potato booth in the Horticulture Building after longtime operator Wahid Akl decided it was time to move on, ending an era for one of the fair’s most recognizable food traditions…
