A 61-year-old man has died after riding his e-bike into a Las Vegas intersection against a solid red traffic signal, where he was struck by a Honda CR-V, according to a Metro police news release. The crash happened just after 11:16 p.m. on August 2 at East Sahara Avenue and South Burnham Street, and the rider died a week later, on August 9, at Sunrise Hospital.
According to the Las Vegas Sun, the man rode into the path of the northbound CR-V as he traveled through the intersection, and the impact knocked him off the bike and onto the ground. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said. His death marked the 72nd traffic-related fatality tracked by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department so far this year, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Review-Journal’s reconstruction of the crash adds that the rider was heading eastbound on Sahara Avenue when he entered the Burnham Street intersection against the red signal, putting him directly in the CR-V’s path. Investigators noted the driver stayed cooperative at the scene, the paper reported.
