The former CFO of Massachusetts-based spinal implant company SpineFrontier has been sentenced to four months in prison for his role in a kickback scheme that paid more than $540,000 in sham consulting fees to surgeons to induce use of the company’s products, the Justice Department said in an Aug. 6 news release.
Aditya Humad, of Cambridge, Mass., pleaded guilty in May 2026 to conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute and was also ordered to pay a $9,500 fine and serve one year of supervised release.
SpineFrontier founder and CEO Kingsley Chin, MD, was previously sentenced in August 2025 to one year of supervised release for making false statements to CMS. All kickback charges against SpineFrontier as a company were dropped in January 2025.
