American caught with $1.7M worth of cocaine at border, CBP says

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — A U.S. citizen attempted to smuggle more than $1.7 million worth of cocaine across the border last week in Del Rio, Texas.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release, the 29-year-old American arrived in a 2013 Dodge Durango at the Del Rio International Bridge on Aug. 4 and was referred to a secondary inspection.

Border officers X-rayed the SUV and physically inspected it, then discovered 49 packages within the quarter panels.

CBP said the packages contained just under 130 pounds of cocaine and had an estimated street value of $1,731,425…
