Citing continued concern from residents about development in Newark, several city council members said Monday they would like to consider further limits on the height of new buildings as well as explore ways to limit the number of rental properties in neighborhoods.
“People are demanding this,” Councilwoman Corinth Ford said. “All the surveys that we did, all the meetings that we had on the comprehensive plan, people complain about the height of buildings and have come before council. So I absolutely want to see this on the agenda.”
Neither topic was on the agenda of Monday’s meeting, but Councilwoman Deborah Welch broached the idea of a new height limit during her open comment time, and a majority of her colleagues agreed they would like to schedule a formal discussion of the issue…
