Bakersfield Valley Plaza rolls out paid parking option, shoppers push back

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The hunt for a better parking spot at Valley Plaza may be over, if you’re willing to pay for it.

The Bakersfield mall is rolling out a premier parking option, which has sparked plenty of conversation among shoppers.

The mall has introduced paid parking spaces near select entrances. For $2 an hour, shoppers can pay for what Valley Plaza is calling convenience.

“Parking can be a pain – having to drive around looking for a spot – we get it, so we have implemented it at some of our properties, including Valley Plaza,” said Valley Plaza spokesperson Lindsay Khan. “This preferred parking program where those who want to park up front – they don’t want to have to look for a spot – they have that option.”…
