Man accused of driving wrong way in triple fatal Hwy 99 crash is prison employee

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The man accused of driving the wrong way on Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road is employed at North Kern State Prison.

Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told 17 News Jamie Rodriguez, 44, has been an employee of the California Correctional Training and Rehabilitation Authority at North Kern State Prison since February 2023.

Wrong way driver identified in crash that leaves three dead

Rodriguez is accused of driving a 2019 BMW 530I the wrong way on Highway 99 around 1 a.m. Aug. 16 when he collided with a 2022 Honda Accord and a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
