Jail whistleblower criticism of jail has been curtailed

Medical care liaison settles lawsuit for retaliatory firing against Woods as scrutiny over jail deaths continues.

Former Marion County Jail medical liaison Mary Tolbert Coy has settled her whistleblower lawsuit against Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods for $60,000, ending a case in which she alleged she was fired in retaliation for raising concerns about medical care and conditions inside the jail.

Under the settlement reached last month, Coy and her attorney, Marie A. Mattox, P.A., will receive a total of $60,000, and Coy must dismiss the lawsuit with prejudice within 15 days of receiving the funds. The agreement includes no admission of wrongdoing by Woods or the Marion County Sheriff’s Office…
