For the third consecutive year, East Central Independent School District is asking voters to approve a property tax rate increase to fund salary raises, security measures and student programs.
On Tuesday night, trustees voted unanimously to call a tax rate election to approve an increase of less than a cent on the Nov. 3 ballot. If passed, Proposition A would raise $8.47 million in new funding for the school district, according to East Central estimates.
The tax rate increase would help East Central ISD cover daily expenses, including gas and health insurance, while boosting salaries. It would also allow the district to avoid a deficit of $8.5 million for this school year…
