ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico Heritage Rail (NMHR) will again host New Mexico Railroad Days, Sept. 26 and 27, 2026, at Albuquerque’s downtown Rail Yards multi-use facility. The nonprofit’s Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 2926 is scheduled to traverse home rails to serve as the headliner.
“This free, family-friendly event is a showcase of New Mexico’s railroad legacy — featuring the state’s own living legend,” NMHR said in a press release.
As in past years, No. 2926 will depart from its restoration site on 8th Street, travel over New Mexico Rail Runner Express’ Albuquerque Subdivision, and traverse the ex-ATSF Transcontinental main line before reaching the Rail Yards. It’s expected that the Northern will make its mainline ferry moves before and after the event, without the company of a diesel assist. No. 2926 will then be staged at the facility’s south property near the turntable, which is currently undergoing restoration with support from Next Generation Rail Solutions…
