(KRON) — A traffic enforcement operation focused on dangerous driving on Santa Cruz Mountain highways was conducted Saturday by the California Highway Patrol and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. The effort resulted in 117 citations and one arrest, authorities said.
The joint special enforcement operation was conducted to “address dangerous driving behaviors that put public safety at risk” on Highway 35, Highway 84 and Highway 9, CHP said.
In one instance, a CHP helicopter aided in pursuing a reckless motorcyclist on Highway 35, also known as Skyline Boulevard, authorities said. A video shared by CHP alleges the motorcyclist reached speeds of 117 mph on the winding highway and was seen passing vehicles over double yellow lines. The motorcyclist was eventually arrested.
Law enforcement also gave out 17 verbal warnings to motorists during the enforcement period…
