Harrisburg police puts sharper focus on non-fatal shootings, community involvement

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — The Harrisburg Bureau of Police is focusing more resources on non-fatal shootings as part of its strategic plan, and according to Deputy Chief Kenneth Young, it’s already working.

Harrisburg police recently started to adapt a model from the Denver Police Department called the Firearm Assault Shoot Team model, or FAST model.

Young said Thursday that Harrisburg police is dedicating its street crime unit to non-fatal and property damage shootings, while its Criminal Investigative Division handles the city’s major crimes, like homicides…
