Chula Vista self-storage project moves forward — without access road that neighbors hated

The developer behind a controversial self-storage project in east Chula Vista has officially dropped its plan to build a road accessing the nearby residential neighborhood.

The move was expected. UTEX Storage Partners confirmed to inewsource last month that it would eliminate what would have been an emergency route. City officials also determined the road was not required for the project.

Councilmembers on Tuesday unanimously approved a new tax district for the project site, a vote they postponed last month in response to residents’ pushback against the new facility. The new taxes apply only to the facility’s property owner and will fund wetland mitigation at the site…
