Weather forecasters are growing more confident that a “historic” El Niño could unfold in coming months, which could have big impacts on the Chicago area’s weather.
According to the latest updates from the Climate Prediction Center, forecasters now believe there is a “greater than 90% chance” that a “very strong” El Niño pattern could develop in the Northern Hemisphere, and that it could persist through the coming fall and winter.
What’s more, forecasters now believe there is a 69% chance of a “historic” event that would shatter records, which date back to 1950 according to CPC data.
