A search for suspicious juveniles in hoodies and face coverings shut down part of a Cypress neighborhood Thursday afternoon, with deputies setting up a perimeter near Montaigne Drive and Laffite Drive as a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter circled overhead. By the time the dust settled, authorities had a female juvenile in custody — and it turned out she wasn’t just fleeing arrest, she was a missing runaway.
The search began after Constable Mark Herman’s office responded to a report of suspicious juveniles wearing hoodies and face coverings in the neighborhood, according to a live update from Harris County Constable Precinct 4. Deputies established a perimeter in the area of Montaigne Drive and Laffite Drive and asked residents to remain alert and avoid the immediate area while they searched for a male suspect who had fled from deputies on foot. DPS air support assisted constable deputies from above as the search unfolded.
The helicopter involved was identified as DPS 102, part of the Texas Department of Public Safety’s air support unit that helped establish the perimeter and track movement on the ground, according to the same Facebook update. Deputies ultimately took a female juvenile into custody near Montaigne Drive and Laffite Drive on suspicion of evading arrest. Investigators later determined she had previously been reported as a missing runaway.
