WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita Public Schools welcomed thousands of students on Thursday for the first day of the new school year.
The largest district in Kansas, USD 259, educates nearly 45,000 students, representing about 10% of the state’s student population.
At Brooks Center for STEM and Arts Magnet Middle School, music filled the air as parents, churches and community members cheered the students on.

“Just seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as they walk into the building,” said Corinthian Kelly, the director of strategic partnerships and community impact with Wichita Schools. “Some of these students might be their first day of school, first day of middle school, so it’s exciting being encouraged to come in and do a great job and have a great first day.”…
