The man accused of smashing a glass display case and stealing a haul of gold during a Christmas Eve heist at the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals has been convicted.
A Washington County jury found Vincent Charles Roberts II guilty Friday, Aug. 7, of second-degree burglary, first-degree aggravated theft, first-degree theft and first-degree criminal mischief, according to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Roberts, a 35-year-old from Aurora, broke into the Hillsboro-area museum Dec. 24, 2023, and used a sledgehammer to smash the display case before stealing nearly all the gold from the exhibit…
