FWPD: Pedestrian in life-threatening condition after school bus crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A woman is in life-threatening condition Friday after being struck by a school bus at the intersection of Coliseum Boulevard and Vance Avenue.

The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) issued a Public Safety Alert just after 8 a.m. advising people to stay away from the area due to multiple crashes. The second crash involved four vehicles and was unrelated to the school bus crash.

Medics initially transported the woman to a hospital in critical condition, and they later determined her injuries were life-threatening.

The school bus belonged to Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS), and both the bus driver and school district are cooperating with the investigation, according to the FWPD. Based on the preliminary investigation and an onboard camera from the bus, police do not believe the bus driver was at fault in the crash.

The school bus had one student inside during the crash, but nobody inside the bus suffered injuries…
