The Audubon Nature Institute has started the design process for the next phase in its ambitious project to convert two historic French Quarter wharves into a downtown riverfront park.
The first phase of the park opened in April at the site of the former Governor Nicholls Street Wharf, after a decade of planning. It cost $30 million to build and its 6.3 acres include plazas, a playground and paths.
On Thursday evening, the institute held a meeting at the Audubon Aquarium’s River Terrace to garner feedback from the public as it begins the design process for the second phase, which will be at the site of the former Esplanade Street wharf. It will be 2.5 acres…
