Heat forces Towanda restaurant to shorten operating hours

TOWANDA, Kan. (KSNW) — The triple-digit heat can be dangerous for people who have to work outside, but it can also cause issues for those working inside.

The owner of Towanda’s Thunderbird Grill, which shortened its operating hours due to heat-related impacts.

The Thunderbird is typically open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. But for the next two weeks, it will be closed on Saturday and shut down at 2 p.m. on weekdays.

Jennifer Weber has owned and operated the grill for more than three years and said when temperatures outside start to climb, the building’s interior often follows suit, and even air conditioning and fans can’t beat the heat…
