CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The Medical University of South Carolina marked a major construction milestone Friday on a new building that will give its College of Medicine its first dedicated home in more than a century.
MUSC leaders, faculty, staff and construction crews gathered on the downtown Charleston campus for a topping-out ceremony as the final steel beam was raised into place on the new 186,000-square-foot College of Medicine building. MUSC President Dr. David Cole said the milestone represents more than progress on a construction project.
“MUSC is 202 years old. This dedicated College of Medicine building is the first dedicated building for the College of Medicine in more than a hundred years,” Cole said. “The second oldest school in the South, one of the oldest medical colleges in the United States, and we’ve not had a home.”…
