Wisconsin leads nation in ATV, UTV crash deaths in 2026

KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WBAY) — Wisconsin is leading the nation in ATV and UTV crash deaths this year, according to new data from the state Department of Natural Resources. The DNR reports 29 people have died in ATV and UTV crashes so far in 2026, with an additional 49 non-fatal crashes recorded.

Of the 29 deaths, 16 involved UTVs and 13 involved ATVs.

Safety training, gear urged

Experts are urging ATV and UTV riders to complete safety training offered by the Wisconsin DNR and to use safety equipment, including helmets and seatbelts. Officials and local dealers said many of the deaths could have been prevented with proper safety precautions.
