SPOKANE, Washington (The Spokesman-Review) — With her home on Winston Drive still standing, Bridget Perez thought she had managed to come out of the Spokane Complex fires relatively unscathed.
Then the window seal in her 1-year-old son’s nursery tested positive for lead. So did her front door. And her brother’s house. And her mom’s house.
“Driving around the Indian Trail Elementary park, there’s all these signs that say, ‘Be safe,’ and they’re giving guidelines, but nothing talking about lead or heavy metals,” Perez said. “So it almost is like this false sense of security thing.”…
