WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Utility work is underway for a $105 million overhaul of three Wrightsville Beach bridges, a project state officials say will finish two years ahead of schedule while keeping traffic lanes open.
After receiving public feedback, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) decided to bring contractors in during the design phase, a method known as “Construction Manager/General Contractor” that has never been tried in southeastern North Carolina. NCDOT expects to wrap up the project by Spring 2030.
“We see this as an investment in the community for decades to come,” NCDOT Division Three Engineer Trevor Carrol said. “We’re just trying to be transparent and show that we are working towards reducing those impacts.”…
