Fans face heat to mark 49 years since Elvis died

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Elvis fans will have to brave near100-degree temperatures to pay their respects to the King of Rock n Roll nearly 50 years after his death.

Thousands are expected to gather at the gates of Graceland tonight for the annual event marking 49 years since the music legend passed away at Graceland at the age of 42.

Fans travel from around the world to Memphis for Elvis Week 2026

Every year, fans from around the globe flock to Graceland for ‘Elvis Week’ and are invited to walk up the driveway to Elvis’ gravesite and back down carrying a candle in quiet remembrance.

The Gates opened at 8:30 p.m. on the eve of Elvis Presley’s passing, but fans have been known to gather hours early. An extreme heat warning was in effect in Memphis until around 8 p.m…
