KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — A Kalihi Valley family is dealing with major damage after powerful winds ripped the roof off part of their home as severe weather moved across Oʻahu.
KHON2 visited the home Saturday night, where the damage left portions of the house completely exposed to the sky.

The resident’s daughter, Aleka Ome-Ongayo said the roof was torn away as strong winds swept through the neighborhood.
The Kalihi family confirmed that they reached out to emergency officials, services and are currently in communication with resources where they can receive the best help they can get.
“They were great, they came right away and really concerned saying ‘you gotta get out of the house because its structurally unsafe’,” said Ome-Ongayo. “Luckily my brother works for HFD so I was able to call him.”

Video from the home shows roof panels missing above an area that had been covered just hours earlier. The exposed beams remain in place, but there is little protection from additional rain and wind.
