Local Filipino bakery opens first brick-and-mortar store

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A bakery specializing in Filipino baked goods has opened its first physical storefront in Columbus.

Manila Bakery, located at 186 N. Wilson Road on the city’s west side, opened Aug. 2, according to the owners. Walter Diaz and his wife, Ana, ran the business as a pickup-only operation before opening the storefront.

The bakery’s menu centers heavily on ube, the purple yam widely used in Filipino desserts, alongside a broader spread of traditional Filipino baked goods, pastries and savory items. See the latest headlines from NBC4 in the video player above.
