Beloved San Antonio H-E-B manager suddenly dies after cardiac event at store

H-E-B employees and customers in San Antonio are mourning longtime store manager Rashad Chance, who died last week after suffering a cardiovascular event at the company’s Babcock Road and Huebner Road location. He was 45.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, Chance was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m. on Aug. 10 due to “hypertensive cardiovascular disease with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,” a heart condition characterized by a thickening of the heart muscle that can make it harder for the heart to pump blood.

That night at around 9:10 p.m., H-E-B customer Joshua Rivera shared a video on Facebook of emergency crews outside the H-E-B location, noting the entire grocery store had shut down.
