Unlicensed food vendors were on full display around Seattle’s stadium district on Saturday, as roughly 30 pop-up operations lined the streets outside Lumen Field during the Seahawks’ preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
The issue has been percolating for years. Even though King County health officials shut down unpermitted vendors repeatedly, the illegal operations tend to return within hours at a different location.
Spike O’Neill, co-host of “The Jake and Spike Show” on KIRO Newsradio, said the problem goes beyond food safety and has turned into an enforcement failure that is hampering legitimate businesses and putting health inspectors in danger.
