At 1665 Newport Road in Colorado Springs, Colorado, sits a restaurant with a four-engine military tanker attached to the building. The plane is real. You can eat inside it.

It opened as Solo’s Restaurant on May 10, 2002. The aircraft is a Boeing KC-97 built in 1953. It flew for the Air Force and later sat on display in Fort Worth. Eight semitrailers brought it to Colorado in late 2001.

The name changed to The Airplane Restaurant on December 4, 2008. Nothing else did. The family that built the place still runs it, and it passed 24 years in May 2026…
