Jury deliberates fate of 2 Shelby County jailers charged in the death of inmate Gershun Freeman

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The fate of two Shelby County jail deputies is now in the hands of a jury.

Following a dramatic day of closing arguments Tuesday, jurors began deliberating whether Shelby County jailers Stevon Jones and Courtney Parham are guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the October 2022 custody death of 33-year-old inmate Gershun Freeman.

Deliberations will pick back up in court Wednesday morning…
