CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Canyon City Commission is set to meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss items including the ad valorem tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027, as well as a settlement agreement between Atmos Energy and multiple cities in its service area.
According to the agenda, officials will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Commission Chambers of Canyon City Hall. Public comments will be heard during the meeting, and officials will also consider approving minutes for previous meetings on Aug. 4 and Aug. 10.
City of Amarillo considers tax rate increase as budget talks continue
Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed ad valorem tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027, which would be a rate of $0.53413 per $100. That proposed tax rate, according to the documents published alongside the agenda, would be a 4% increase from the 2025-2026 tax rate of $0.51181.
Other items on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting include considering a recommendation from the Board of City Development for its 2025-2026 budget, considering a contract via Azavar and/or Localgov for short-term rental tax compliance services, and considering a Texas Health Benefits Pool Board of Trustees election.
