It seems more and more Capital Region and Hudson Valley residents are encountering bats in their homes this summer. But these encounters may not be all that unusual.
Local environmental and pest control experts say bats are most active during the summer — their maternity season — and more likely to enter homes, often attics. That could be because, to them, houses can look a lot like caves, according to Bill Clark, president of Thomas Pest Control Services. But it is also because they’re looking for safe spaces to raise their babies, away from a deadly fungal disease that threatens them in the cold caves of the Capital Region.
“Their ecology is their cavity nester, so finding these little cracks and crevices around rooflines and giving them access into a safe structure that is protected, warm and dark during the day is a great habitat for them to live,” he said…
