Colorado husband called 911 and said he’d found his wife dead in the shower with her throat cut, claiming she took her own life. Then… police discovered ‘unexplainable injuries’ on her body

A Colorado husband allegedly slit his wife’s throat and claimed that she killed herself before police found brutal injuries on her body. Lakewood Police arrested 40-year-old Patrick Theodore Barnett for the first-degree murder of his wife, 37-year-old Lindsey Barnett. The victim was an art teacher at Hutchinson and Westgate elementary schools, per 9NEWS.

The couple was going through a difficult marriage

Around 6:00 in the morning on Thursday, August 13, police arrived at a residence in the 1700 block of South Welch Circle after a report of an unresponsive woman. They found the victim in the shower with a big cut on her neck and a knife beside her body. Barnett and his wife were allegedly in a bad marriage, per the arrest affidavit obtained by the outlet.

After the woman was pronounced dead, Barnett told the investigators that they were going through a difficult time and lived separately inside the same house. When he woke up around 5:30 a.m., he found his wife in the shower with a laceration on her neck. He also said that the victim was going through postpartum depression, per the outlet.

Police found several injuries on the victim’s body

The police found an injury on his thumb. When asked, he said he got a cut while playing frisbee back in July, and the wound opened up recently. Investigators found several more scratches and cuts on his body after they inspected him. Dried blood was also found near Barnett’s neck, per the outlet.

Investigators also saw a smear of blood behind his ear. After the authorities collated the evidence, they arrested the accused later on Thursday while he was driving near Evergreen. The police brought him in for another round of questioning, where he was told that the investigation concluded that his wife died in bed and not in the shower…
