Summit County warns residents about jury duty scam

AKRON, Ohio – Summit County Clerk of Courts Tavia Galonski is asking residents to be on the lookout following a reported jury duty scam.

On Tuesday, a county resident received several phone calls from a restricted number. The caller claimed to be from the Summit County Clerk of Courts and alleged that the victim had missed a jury summons. The caller tried to convince the intended victim that a gag order was in place that prevented him from speaking to anyone about the calls or verifying the information he was being given. The caller then asked the victim to send money via Cash App to resolve the issue, which he did not do, according to a Clerk of Courts news release.

“I need for all of our citizens to understand that as scammers become more sophisticated, they find other ways to get your attention, and that is why it is so important to always stay vigilant,” Galonski said in the release. “In Summit County, the Clerk’s Office will never contact you regarding jury duty.”…
