Construction training program in Augusta builds careers, fills worker gap

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A free, eight-week construction training program is offering adults hands-on experience and connections to employers.

Construction Ready and the Home Builders Institute are partnering on the pre-apprenticeship program, which runs through Sept. 9 at Augusta Technical College.

The goal is to help fill a need for skilled workers as more Georgians retire from the trades than are entering them.

Students are spending the next few weeks building a tiny house, an effort that puts carpentry and tool skills to work in a real project.
