FRESNO, Calif. – The California High-Speed Rail Authority is seeking input from the public on the proposed Central Valley Heavy Maintenance Facility.
According to the release, this proposed facility will support long-term operations of the future high-speed rail system. The Heavy Maintenance Facility (HMF) will be a primary location for “inspections, servicing, maintenance, overhaul and major component replacement for the high-speed train fleet.” In 2023, the Authority initiated a screening and environmental evaluation process and came up with 11 potential sites. Now, that list has narrowed, and there are two locations in Fresno and Kings County near Hanford that will be evaluated. These sites were selected based on what meets operational needs, its compatibility with land use, and construction feasibility along with environmental considerations and impacts to nearby communities.
CHSRA is accepting public comment on the facility until September 14. In addition, it is holding three public meetings from August 25 to 27. The feedback gathered from the public will help the team in preparing the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement, which is set to be released early next year.
