Virginia Beach mayor to propose new conduct rules for meetings

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer is set to propose new conduct rules for council meetings.

The proposal follows crowd members booing at speakers and council members after the approval to sell Virginia Beach National Golf Club to a private developer during a public hearing on Aug. 11.

Throughout the meeting, Dyer attempted to control the noise by pleading with audience members to be quiet and respectful. However, people would still stand or shout at council members.

“That’s not what we want in Virginia Beach,” he said. “We want anybody to know that comes to this chamber right here [that they’re] going to be treated with respect and dignity and treated well…
