Asleep at the Wheel performs in Amarillo Friday: Route 66 Centennial Tour

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A Western Swing Band plans to make a stop in Amarillo during their Route 66 Centennial Tour honoring 100 years of the historic road.

Asleep at the Wheel will be live on Friday, Aug. 21, with a special performance at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts as part of their tour. The band is celebrating the Mother Road by performing in communities along its long route from Chicago to Los Angeles.

“The tour honors the road that has inspired musicians, writers and travelers for a century. Amarillo, with its deep connection to Route 66, offers a fitting stop for a night filled with Western swing, country music and ‘honky tonk’ favorites,” said Visit Amarillo officials.
