Wingate is the son of R.B. “Dick” Wingate, who purchased the Coca-Cola Bottling Company from Thomas M. Nabers here in Amarillo in 1927. According to a clip from the Amarillo Sunday News and Globe, when R.B. Wingate died unexpectedly in 1933, his son Thomas R. Wingate was just 17 years old. By 1938, Thomas was managing the family’s Coca-Cola operation on behalf of his mother and siblings.
Who Lived at 1704 S. Julian Blvd?
We know Thomas Wingate and his family were living in the home at 1704 S. Julian Blvd because a mention of Mrs. Thomas Wingate of 1704 Julian Blvd. appears in the October 13, 1938, edition of the Amarillo Globe.
The home was later owned by Thomas Wingate’s son, Thomas R. Wingate Jr., who owned Amarillo Imports and loved antique automobiles. According to PRAD.org, the home was owned by Thomas R. Wingate Jr., who passed away in September 2025.
