Former Virginia medical examiner’s credentials raise questions in at least 10 homicide cases

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A former Virginia medical examiner’s credentials are raising questions in at least 10 Hampton Roads homicide cases in which she testified as an expert witness.

Medical examiner Dr. Fernanda da Silva Lameira was fired after officials discovered she had submitted an inauthentic letter claiming she passed a forensic pathology board exam — The Virginian-Pilot first reported the credential issue.
