Kalamazoo commissioner proposes no-barrier shelter as dozens are removed from encampment

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The issue of homelessness is front and center for Kalamazoo City Commissioners following the removal of an encampment on North Edwards Street last Friday.

During Monday night’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting, residents voiced their frustrations with the city’s decision to remove the encampment, while still calling on city leaders to do more to address homelessness.

“What you are doing is not working,” a resident said. “You can’t just force them out.”
