Anticipating less revenue, Mobile mayor’s first budget prioritizes public safety, includes employee raises

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis on Thursday released his first budget proposal, a spending blueprint that builds on the course his predecessor set and seeks to leave a mark on several of his campaign promises.

The $404 million budget proposal for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1 represents a 13.9 percent reduction from this year’s $416 million spending plan. The biggest reason for the drop is an anticipated $89.75 million reduction in interest income on bonds and investments.
