$9 million award clears way for first phase of Brookley by the Bay

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A major funding announcement Thursday is moving Brookley by the Bay waterfront park one step closer to becoming a reality in Mobile. The governor’s office awarded $9 million in GoMESA funds, which come from offshore oil and gas lease revenue. City officials say the funding will allow them to build the first phase and open the park to the public.

“It’s a massive step forward. Very, very positive. We are so grateful for the support,” said Jennifer Greene, Director of Programs and Project Management for the city of Mobile.

The city is contributing $5 million to build phase one, which is already fully designed. It will include walking trails, play areas, a water play area, pavilions and a parking lot with about 150 spaces.
