Nebraska meat company closing plant and laying off 218 workers

Another food-processing facility is preparing to close its doors, putting more than 200 workers out of their jobs. The shutdown is the latest major blow to Nebraska’s food manufacturing industry this year, following several other high-profile plant closures and layoffs.

Skylark Meats, a meat-processing company owned by American Foods Group, is permanently closing its Omaha facility on August 25. According to a WARN notice filed with the Nebraska Department of Labor, 218 employees will be affected by the closure.

The 215,000-square-foot facility at 4430 South 110th Street produces a variety of meat products, including cut steaks, liver, marinated meats, and other fresh meat products.
