SCHENECTADY, NY (WRGB)- A traffic safety dispute on Kings Road in Schenectady is continuing after the city lowered speed limits on most roads to 25 mph and later installed two stop signs on Kings Road at the intersection with Queen Philomena Boulevard.
The stop signs were added after a resident complained for years about speeding cars, including some that crashed into his property. But another nearby resident, who lives between the two stop signs, has raised concerns about the noise from vehicles stopping and starting.
“The temporary stop signs were installed as an interim measure in response to ongoing concerns regarding excessive speeding, reckless driving, and unsafe traffic behavior in the area. The intent of the installation was to provide an immediate traffic-calming measure while the City continued to evaluate the underlying concerns and determine whether additional or more permanent interventions were warranted,” reads a legislation request form submitted to the agenda by Council President Carl Williams for the August 17, 2026 City Council Meeting.
