Troy approves $2.75 million settlement with doctor hit by dump truck

TROY — The City Council unanimously approved a $2.75 million settlement in a civil lawsuit filed against the city by a former physician who was left permanently disabled when she was hit last year by a city-owned and operated dump truck.

Dr. Ajit K. Khanuja claimed in the lawsuit filed in May in U.S. District Court in Albany that the recycling dump truck, operated by a former city driver, hit her on Aug. 26, 2025, as she was walking on Plum Avenue toward Pawling Avenue. The lawsuit said she suffered a variety of injuries to her head, body, limbs and nervous system, which have left her disabled.
