PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Flood Watch will be in effect from 11 a.m. today until 8 a.m. tomorrow for Alamance, Chatham, Montgomery, and Randolph Counties.
There is a Level 1/Marginal Risk of severe weather today across the FOX8 viewing area, except in southern Chatham, Davidson, and Randolph Counties and all of Montgomery County, where there is a Level 2/Slight Risk. The primary threats will be from damaging winds and possibly large hail.
A line of showers and thunderstorms is rolling across the mountains and foothills this morning. There is a frontal boundary cutting through central North Carolina, which will be a firing line for more showers and thunderstorms through the day. Some southern communities could have 2 to 3 inches of rain from thunderstorm downpours.
The highest potential for strong storms and heavy rain is along and south of the boundary (roughly oriented with US 64) where a Flood Watch and Level 2/Slight Risk severe weather outlook applies. Highs reach the lower-80s today, and the chance of rain is 60%.
