‘We need more help’: Russell Avenue families wait on power after storm

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A storm that hit Tuesday night left shattered trees and downed power lines along Russell Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, cutting power to a tight-knit community.

Austina Hernandez, who has lived on Russell Avenue for eight years, said she woke up scared and got dressed before walking outside with neighbors.

“I woke up scared to death, got myself dressed, came out here walking with the neighbors thinking it’s going to be a total destruction down our street,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez’s son spent the day cutting up a large tree that fell in their front yard. Hernandez said a neighbor who is on hospice care came outside to check on others…
