‘Tell them you’re okay or I’m going to shoot you’: IMPD bodycam footage shows moments leading up to police shooting during hostage situation

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released edited bodycam footage documenting the moments leading to a police shooting during a hostage situation on the city’s north side.

According to a graphic that appears at the beginning of the video, officers responded shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2024, to the 7800 block of River Road to conduct a welfare check after a 911 caller requested that police check on the status of a woman who was not answering her phone.

While police were on their way to the apartment complex, the run was upgraded to an active hostage situation after the 911 caller informed dispatch that the woman was being held against her will inside the apartment.
